7-Month-Old Isla
7:04 PMThe past month was filled with many firsts. Isla was sick for the first time, first rash, first ER visit, first family vacation and first word. It's been a crazy, busy, stressful month, but it's all worth it.
Isla woke up one morning with a fever. I tried to wait out the day to see if it resolved itself while giving her Tylenol. Unfortunately, the next day we did have to take her to the morning. She developed diarrhea and threw up the last time we gave her Tylenol. The doctor gave us a list of things to do to help with her tummy as well as a prescription for antibiotics for an ear infection. She seemed to be doing fine with everything once we got home. She took the meds without throwing up and was her usual happy self. But during the evening she started throwing everything up again and still had a fever. I didn't give her anything except Pedialyte before bed hoping that would settle her stomach. Around 3 AM she woke up, so I fed her and tried to give her Tylenol again. She instantly puked. I cleaned us up, called the on-call doctor who then told us to go to the ER. There we were told that babies and kids just throw up at the drop of a dime and not to worry too much. Since she couldn't keep anything but breastmilk down orally they gave her a Tylenol suppository and an antibiotic shot in each leg. She was back to herself with no fever the next day.
I've decided that the next vacation we take will involve far less driving. Isla does not like being in the carseat for so long, but once we are out and about she is golden. Sleeping while on vacation is whole other battle. I will say one of the best things we brought with us on vacation was our Tula carrier. It's more comfortable to wear than other carriers we've used and Isla seems so content in it. We wore it everywhere. We took the stroller out a couple of times, but it was so big and in the way. A carrier is the way to go.
Little B's hair is finally starting to grow back, so she doesn't have a bald spot of the back of her hear anymore. Speaking of growing Isla now has two teeth! And those suckers (biters?) are sharp! I think another one will come soon because she is drooling/gnawing on everything.
The rest of Isla seems to be lacking in the growing department. She isn't at the top of the charts for weight and height anymore. I think getting sick really hurt her weight gain, plus being super active is leaning her out. But she is still on her growth curve, so there is no need to be worried.
One thing that really cam out of no where this month was the start of babbling. While on vacation Isla started saying baba over and over again. Before this she would say things like hi or ow, but it wasn't anything consistent. But now she will carry on a conversation with us so to speak. She's even thrown in a few mamas too. Hopefully dada is next. To be honest I was starting to wonder why she wasn't trying to talk yet. She really only screeched and blew bubbles until now.
Isla has also started to lay her head on everything as if she is using it as a pillow or possibly giving it a hug. She started with the whale stuffed animal we have in her bed, then went to the dog bed and now it's everything within reach. She will even do it to us when we hold her.
With all of this stuff going on Isla is still such a happy baby. She is a true trooper when it comes to being sick and barely shows that she isn't feeling well. Her personality is getting bigger and sweeter, and I just love her more every day.
