Louisiana Adventures

Traveling with a baby is hard. All of the extra baggage, planning, time and energy it takes to bring your child along for a "vacation" is exhausting to say the least. So when I decided last minute to go with my mom to Louisiana in hopes to be there when my niece arrives was a bit bold. I had to pack for two, find a cheap plane ticket back to Jax and hope that I wasn't forgetting anything.

We left Saturday morning for our eight-hour drive to Louisiana. We only had to stop once that entire time. That was for a lunch picnic at one of the rest stops along the way. We wanted Isla to be able to crawl around instead of being confined to a highchair. She napped at her regular nap times, she ate at her regular times, and she was her general happy self. I read books, played music and dangled toys in front of her to keep her entertained. And it worked... until the last 15 minutes of the car ride where she had a complete fit. But once we were out of the car she was happy again.

We were there in hopes to meet baby Steele, but we weren't so lucky. However, we did get to see a bit of New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Stacia was our tour guide at 39 weeks pregnant. haha. Despite the heat, humidity, constant in and out of the car, being strapped to the carseat, stroller and carrier, Isla barely complained at all. She was happy going along for the ride. The only time she would really get fussy was when we were in the apartment too long and I wouldn't let her get into anything.

I have to say I was most terrified of flying with Isla for the first time. I've never flown with a baby before, so I had no idea what to expect. There were no issues at TSA. It went so quick and smoothly. I did have to wait for an hour or so before the plane started boarding, so I let Isla crawl around for a bit. She was so well behaved. Once we did get on the she was a bit squirmy. I couldn't get her to sit still. All she wanted to do was grab the magazines and the poor lady next to use. But the moment the plane started pressurizing and taking off Isla got really still. Before I knew it she was passed out. She slept until the moment I stood up to get off the plane. It was so nice because she rarely sleeps in my arms anymore.

This was a pretty successful trip with Isla (other than the fact that my niece refused to come). Now it's time to start packing for Jekyll Island!
Sleepy head in the car.

Picnic pit stop.

I swear she loves my kisses.
She loves her cousin, Kane, so much.
She loves the swings almost as much as Kane.
Watching Kane practice T-ball while showing memaw her little duckie.

 Visiting Mike the tiger.

On top of the world! Or just the Louisiana State Capitol.

I never take selfies, but trip I took quite a few.

Isla slept the entire flight!

 She drove us to lunch.
They were so happy to be reunited!
