Another Isla Update
5:22 PM
I didn't intend to keep up monthly updates after Isla turned 1 because I wasn't sure if there would be much to update each month. I was wrong. This girl is a learning machine. She is still doing/saying something new every day.
Learning:
At almost 14 months, Isla is talking nonstop. She repeats almost anything we say which means we really have to be careful when we are around her.
Words (that I can think of off the top of my head):
Yeah
No
Hi
Bye Bye
Up
Dog
PawPaw
All done
Chicken
GG (for Great Grandma)
Mama
Dada
Ball
Night Night
Thank you
Cheese
She also knows several animal noises although she doesn't always do them on cue. She also knows where her belly button is and sometimes where her eyes, ears, mouth and nose are. Other times she just points to her ear for everything.
Isla still cracks us up constantly. She loves to try and tickle us, spins around in circles until she's dizzy and chases the dogs around the house. She loves the car keys and needs to have them every time she walks out of the front door. I think that's because we always take the keys with us when we leave. She is still the most loving baby around; always giving everyone hugs and kisses.
This little girl is now a bookworm. She is always bringing us books and definitely has a few favorites.
Sleeping:
She is still an early riser rarely sleeping in past 6:30 AM, which means she still takes two naps a day most of the time. But she goes down so easily at night and sleeps 11 hours straight if not more.
Eating:
Her eating habits are still sporadic. Some days she will eat whatever we give her and other days she refuses it all. One new thing is she prefers to feed herself with a spoon or fork now instead of us doing it. It's still a work in progress, but she loves it. We are still breastfeeding two to three times a day, so I know she is still getting some form of nutrients on the days she refuses food. This is one thing I am so happy about because before she was nursing constantly (maybe 6-10 times a day).
Challenges:
There was a difficult period right after Isla turned 1 where she would throw a tantrum if we took something away from her, didn't give something to her fast enough or for no reason at all. It was not a fun few weeks, but it must have been a phase since the tantrums aren't as frequent. She's back to crying only when she is tired, we take the phone away or close the door so she can't go outside.
Ever since learning the word "up" means we will pick her up, she says it nonstop with her arms raised high. This girl has never wanted to be held so much!
